Cirera enlisted in the U.S. Army July 13, 2006 in his hometown of San Diego, Calif., as a Combat Medic. His seven years of service included tours in Fort Wainwright, Alaska and Fort Polk as well as two combat deployments, first in Operation Iraqi Freedom (2008) and most recently Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan (2013).
Cirera served on a Security Force Assistance Advisor Team in Logar Province, Afghanistan, from January to October. The team was partnered with an Afghan National Army battalion. As the team's medical advisor, Cirera advised the battalion in developing their casualty evacuation plan and medical care as well as inventorying and requesting medical supplies through their aid station. Cirera managed the health-care needs of his team and assisted in the treatment of coalition and Afghan National Security Force casualties.
He leaves behind two sisters, Sharalee and Christina; one brother, Staff Sgt. Lito Carlos Delpilar Cirera , 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo.; and his parents, Carlos and Aurora Cirera. He was 25 years old.
