Nelson Transports and Wyotech, 8:30 a.m.-noon. • Wednesday — Reserve Component, 8:30-9 a.m.; Louisiana Workforce Commis- sion, 8:30 a.m.-noon. • Thursday — Universal Technical Insti- tute, Navy Federal Credit Union and Texas State Troopers, 8:30 a.m.-noon. Weapons safety A basic pistol safety course is held Sat- urday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at bldg 4209C, Range 23 A, the privately owned weapons range. Participants must bring their own pistol registered for Fort Polk, along with at least 100 rounds of ammunition for that pistol. Cost is $5. All lessons are given by certified firearms instructors. Preretirement briefs Soldiers should start gathering informa- tion and planning their military retirement 12-24 months before they submit the appli- cation for retirement. Changing from military to civilian lifestyles is not always an easy task, but planning can be a big help. At least 12 months before the planned retirement, Sol- diers should attend a preretirement brief- ing. Soldiers are encouraged to attend a briefing before a retirement application is submitted and another shortly before an actual retirement date. Spouses are strongly encouraged to at- tend the briefing. Fort Polk preretirement briefings are scheduled for the following dates: • Feb. 16 • May 5 • Aug. 31 • Nov. 9 Briefings are held from 9 a.m.-noon, and held at the Directorate of Human Re- sources classroom in bldg 1947. FORT POLK, La. — The Joint Readiness Cen- ter and Fort Polk and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has announced the availability of military dependent lottery applica- tions for the 15th annual Fort Polk youth turkey hunt scheduled for March 18. Ten slots will be made available for active duty military dependent youths between the ages of 10 and 17. Application forms may be ob- tained from below or at the Fort Polk Game En- forcement office located in the Fort Polk Military Police station, bldg 2396, 1668 22nd St. Each form must be filled out by an active-duty military parent or legal guardian assigned to Fort Polk. If the active-duty member is deployed, spouses may sign up their youth. Applications must be submitted individually for one youth per form. Multiple applications will result in dis- qualification. Completed forms can be submitted at the Fort Polk Game Enforcement office. Selection will be conducted through a random lottery drawing administered by the LDWF. Ap- plications must be submitted no later than March 3, and successful applicants will be notified by phone. Members of the Louisiana Chapter of the Na- tional Wild Turkey Federation will guide partici- pants chosen for the lottery hunt. One family member may accompany the youth and the guide, but cannot hunt. The participant must supply firearms and am- munition. Youth 16-17 years of age must comply with hunting license requirements. There is no charge to participate. Participants must have Turkey Tags.
